Full day private guided tour of Caral
Caral seems to be the oldest town in the New World and it dates to about 4500 years before the present time. Therefore it is contemporary, with ancient Egypt and it has pyramids that are just as old as those at Giza. Caral is so old that it even predates the ceramic period; no pottery has ever been found there. There is no evidence for towns except the existence of several small villages before Caral was built. These possibly merged based on the success of early agricultural cultivation and fishing techniques. Cotton fishing nets have been found at the site and they must have greatly facilitated the fishing industry on the Pacific coast. It is believed that this industry led to an excess of available food. Thus a labor force existed that had in little to do. This labor force perhaps could then be used for “religious purposes” such as the building of the pyramids found there. Caral might have been the natural result of this process – just like the pyramids of Egypt seem to have been the result of an available workforce. Caral is located about 150 km north of Lima.
